Ryan Madison

The Center for Ethics and Culture is happy to announce that Dr. Ryan Madison will be our new Associate Director. Formerly the Center’s 2012-2013 Myser Fellow, Ryan is an extraordinary scholar and administrator. His work focuses on ancient philosophy, metaphysics, and the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas. Ryan comes to the Center from the College of St. Thomas More in Fort Worth, where he served as Dean. Prior to that, he taught Philosophy for three years at the Cardinal Glennon College at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, where he was hired by the Archbishop of St. Louis (following a national search) to implement a new four-year Philosophy curriculum. He earned his B.A. from St. John’s College (Annapolis) and his Ph.D. in philosophy from Loyola University (Chicago). He is currently completing a book on Aristotle and the relationship between metaphysics and theology. Most importantly, he is passionate about the Center for Ethics and Culture and its mission to share the richness of the Catholic moral and intellectual tradition through research, teaching, and dialogue at the highest level, across a wide range of disciplines. In addition to his other responsibilities, Ryan will lead the Center’s Integritasprogram starting in the fall. This is a fantastic development for the CEC and for Notre Dame!

Angela Engelsen, the Center’s former Associate Director, has transitioned to a new position within the Center where she will focus solely on heading all of the Center’s pro-life efforts and continuing to advise NDRTL and idND (the student organization that hosts the Edith Stein Project).
