Peter Holland

 

 

Peter Holland is Acting Dean of the Graduate School and McMeel Family Professor in Shakespeare Studies in the Department of Film, Television, and Theatre. He came to Notre Dame in 2002 from Stratford-upon-Avon where he was Director of the Shakespeare Institute and Professor of Shakespeare Studies in the University of Birmingham. Educated at the University of Cambridge, he taught there until 1997. He is Editor of Shakespeare Survey, the UK's premier Shakespeare journal, editor of the series Redefining British Theatre History (Palgrave Macmillan), co-editor with Stanley Wells of Oxford Shakespeare Topics (Oxford University Press) and co-editor with Adrian Poole of Great Shakespeareans (Continuum Books). He is President of the Shakespeare Association of America for 2007-08.

One of the world's leading scholars in the field of Shakespeare and performance, he is also a textual scholar whose edition of A Midsummer Night's Dream for Oxford University Press has been highly praised. His current projects include an edition of Coriolanus for the Arden 3rd series, a book on Shakespeare and film and a major study of the work of David Garrick, the greatest English actor of the 18th century.

Professor Holland’s lecture will take place on September 25, 2007 at 8:00 in Room 155 of DeBartolo Hall.
