Charles J. Dougherty

Charles Dougherty received his doctorate in philosophy from Notre Dame in 1975 and has since held professorial appointments at Creighton in philosophy, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and nursing. He has served on numerous health care advisory commissions and projects--most recently, the Not-for-Profit Hospital Trustees Project at the Hastings Center and the New York Academy of Medicine and the National Coalition on Catholic Health Care. He is on the board of trustees of the Catholic Health Association and the board of editors at both Creighton University Press and Health Progress . He has published extensively on ethics and health care, including three recent books: Back to Reform: Values, Markets, and the Health Care System; Ethical Dilemmas in Perioperative Nursing (with Amy Haddad and Barba Edwards); and Ethics at Work (with Jerry Cederblom).
President Dougherty participated in our "From Death to Life" conference. In 1994, he delivered the J. Philip Clarke Family Lecture on Medical Ethics for the annual Notre Dame Medical Ethics Conference.
